My first skirt!
Proud to show off the first ever garment I sewed, the half circle scalloped waist skirt! Free downloadable pattern and tutorial I followed featured here.
Overall I am thrilled with the result and very pleased with myself for sewing it from start to finish, however there were some minor hiccups. The skirt already very short in the picture and was even shorter on me as you can see above! and usually I wouldn't wear an a-line skirt that short but I didn't hold the skirt section of the pattern up to me to test the fit before cutting the fabric, the way I did the waistband, silly me. Of course when I realized that it was too late as there was not enough fabric to recut. But you live and learn, and I still love it! An additional sense of achievement came over me when after noticing a pinch in the fabric where the skirt had been attached to the waistband I bravely unpicked, smoothed and resewed over my mistake fixing it completely! I chose a rayon polyester mix in a deep bright blue that had a gorgeous sheen and drape to it, perfect for the half circle style and I think it came out a treat! The invisible zipper was a challenge to get close enough, I'm looking into invisible zipper foots as I can't see myself opting for a regular zipper when this kind looks so chic... I AM HOOKED ON SEWING FOREVER!
